Red Hat says its new Automation Orchestrator is generally available as an add-on for Ansible Automation Platform 2.7 and later. The visual workflow designer combines existing Ansible job templates with event triggers, control-flow logic and AI-agent recommendations under the platform’s existing governance model.

The availability claim is notable because Red Hat’s product page had not caught up when this desk checked it on Aug. 21: that page still said the capability was “coming in Q3 2026” and invited customers to request early access. Teams planning a purchase or rollout should confirm entitlement and regional availability with Red Hat rather than relying on the older page.

What changed

Automation Orchestrator adds a canvas for building what Red Hat calls multimode workflows. Existing job templates, roles and collections become reusable nodes without modification. New switch, conditional, loop and converge nodes add branching and iteration, while webhooks, schedules and event sources can start workflows from the same design surface.

The add-on also introduces task-agent nodes that can place an AI recommendation at a particular decision point. Red Hat says execution can remain behind human approval or policy-as-code controls, with the agent’s reasoning and decision recorded in the audit log. That makes the AI component a governed input to an established automation flow rather than a separate operator with unrestricted execution rights.

What stays in place

Red Hat says existing playbooks, workflow templates and scheduled jobs continue to run through Automation Controller. Workflows created in the new orchestrator inherit the role-based access controls, approvals and audit trails already configured in Ansible Automation Platform.

That compatibility is the product’s main operational proposition. Platform teams can compose higher-level processes across deterministic jobs, event-driven automation and agent recommendations without migrating their existing automation library or rebuilding its access model.

What teams should verify

Automation Orchestrator is an add-on, not a capability Red Hat says is included automatically with every subscription. Prospective users need Ansible Automation Platform 2.7 or later and should ask Red Hat to clarify licensing, support availability and the mismatch between the GA announcement and the still-stale early-access product page.

Before putting agent nodes into production, teams should also define which recommendations may proceed automatically, which require human approval, and which policy checks must run first. The canvas can centralize those controls, but it does not make those governance decisions for the operator.
